Mixed Media, Resin and Mica

Whose Country Is It Anyway explores ideas of land, belonging and ownership through a rough, hand formed surface that resists perfection and uniformity. Built from layered resin and mica, the sculpture has the appearance of something geological or unearthed, part artefact, part landscape, part fragment of a larger unknown form.

The work reflects on the human impulse to claim territory and define borders, set against the much older timescale of the earth itself. Its uneven surface and shifting textures are intentional, holding traces of process, pressure and instability rather than polished resolution.

The title poses an open question. Who truly owns land, coastline, or country? The sculpture suggests something older than modern divisions, a material memory that sits beneath politics and possession. Through its tactile surface and imperfect form, the work speaks to vulnerability, conflict and our enduring relationship with the landscapes we inhabit and attempt to define.
