About

About Stephanie Fuller (Burns)

Stephanie Fuller is a British Australian artist whose paintings, sculpture and jewellery explore the enduring relationship between humanity and the natural world. Working across bronze, stone, resin, paint and found materials, her practice is concerned with memory, material and the continuity of making.

Rather than treating painting, sculpture and jewellery as separate disciplines, Fuller approaches them as different expressions of the same enquiry. Ancient materials, expressive form and the history embedded within objects are recurring themes throughout her work. Drawing on archaeology, geology and art history, she explores how materials can carry meaning across generations and cultures.

Educated in England at Norwich School of Art, Bath College of Higher Education and Wimbledon School of Art, Fuller began exhibiting professionally in 1990. Since then she has held more than twenty solo exhibitions and participated in over one hundred group exhibitions throughout Australia, the United Kingdom and internationally. Her work is represented in museum, public, corporate and private collections.

Over the course of her career, Fuller has worked as an artist, gallery director, teacher, editor and valuer. She founded Stephanie Burns Fine Art in Canberra, established Orion Sculpture Park and Gardens in New South Wales, served as a trustee of the Peter Fuller Memorial Foundation, and was a valuer for the Australian Government’s Cultural Gifts Program.

Although her materials and subjects have evolved over four decades, her central concerns have remained consistent. Whether creating a bronze figure, a large scale painting or a stone and resin sculpture, Fuller is interested in how form, material and gesture can communicate ideas that transcend time and place.

The Artist currently lives and works in Deal, Kent, where she continues to develop new bodies of work from her gallery and studio.
