Inspired by the quiet presence of seal pups resting on shoreline rocks — a sight recalled from a visit to Catalina Island and often glimpsed on the beaches of Deal.
The smooth, rounded pebbles rise in a gentle vertical stack, their curves evoking the form of a young seal poised on sun-warmed stones.
Once simple sea-washed pebbles, they are now transformed by layers of golden and rose-gold gilt, bringing a soft glow to the piece, while the deep green resin base recalls the cool tidal shallows.Inspired by the quiet presence of seal pups resting on shoreline rocks — a sight the artist first recalls from a visit to Catalina Island and often glimpses again on the beaches of Deal.
