Between Tides is a large seascape built from broad horizontal passages of colour. Deep blue, turquoise, violet, pink and yellow move across the paper in shifting bands, suggesting sea, sky, shoreline and reflected light.

The image remains recognisably connected to the sea, but the forms have been allowed to loosen and dissolve. Pigments bleed, bloom and overlap, while areas of untouched paper create light and space between the different layers.

The painting sits between observation and abstraction, using colour and the movement of water to evoke the changing character of the coast.
