Stone and Lapis Lazuli

Part of my Celestial Ancestors series, Lapis Constellation explores the enduring relationship between humanity, stone and the cosmos. The sphere is composed of carefully selected stones, with fragments of lapis lazuli scattered across its surface like stars within a constellation.

For thousands of years, lapis lazuli has been treasured by ancient cultures as a stone of wisdom, truth and the heavens. Its deep blue has adorned sacred objects, jewellery and works of art from Mesopotamia and Egypt to the Renaissance. Here, the lapis becomes a constellation, suggesting that our fascination with the stars and the earth has always been intertwined.

The work reflects the human instinct to gather, arrange and treasure stones, transforming natural materials into an object that speaks of memory, time and our shared ancestry. It celebrates the enduring dialogue between the earth beneath our feet and the skies above us.
