“Old Log” Alexander Palace
Painted en plein air on a very hot summer’s day, “Old Log” Alexander Palace is a watercolour and acrylic study of Alexander Palace, London, by Stephanie Fuller. A pale fallen tree trunk stretches across the foreground, with loose green foliage and the Palace’s distinctive arches beneath a bright blue sky.
Stephanie made this work during a painting outing with her stepdaughter, when they spent the day outdoors and painted several studies together. It holds the immediacy of working directly from the scene, alongside the personal memory of a summer day shared through painting.
This is the study for Stephanie’s oil painting Alexander Palace. The fluid washes, visible brushwork and glimpses of handmade paper give this small work a character of its own, capturing the scene with freshness and economy.
