Peonies
Peonies is a large oil painting on canvas by Stephanie Fuller, exploring abundance, fragility, memory and the fleeting intensity of beauty.
The painting began as a collaboration between photography and painting, inspired by a photograph by Stephanie’s friend, photographer and digital artist Corina Daniela Obertas, and by Stephanie’s own memory of a tree peony growing in a garden near her stepdaughter’s house in Muswell Hill.
For Stephanie, these peonies have become about much more than flowers. They hold the abundance of a moment in full bloom alongside the knowledge that something so beautiful lasts only a short time.
Seeing the work outside the studio brought another dimension to it. In a temporary home at the end of a hallway in a beautiful old building, the scale of the peonies filled the space, while a sculpture placed in front changed how the painting was seen. As Stephanie reflects, “There is something about seeing a painting outside the studio that makes it suddenly feel complete.”
The collaboration also includes plans for the finished piece to be minted on the blockchain in the future.
Medium: Oil on canvas.
Dimensions: 120 x 170 cm
