The Pond, Alexander Palace captures the still water, wooded islands and waterbirds of a scene Stephanie Fuller returned to while completing her larger painting, Swan Lake.

With the larger work already underway, Stephanie felt she needed to revisit the pond and reacquaint herself with the place before she could finish it. Painted directly from the scene, this work records that renewed encounter, reconnecting the painting process with the experience of being there.

Loose washes of blue and green gather into trees and reflections, while pale passages open a path through the water. The painting has an immediacy and character of its own, as well as a personal connection to the making of Swan Lake.
