The Wood Remembered
The Wood Remembered
Oil on canvas, 2026
75 × 55 cm
The Wood Remembered is an expressive oil painting by British artist Stephanie Fuller, built through layered colour, texture and glaze.
The painting evokes a wooded landscape remembered rather than directly observed. Its deep blue-greens, muted violets, ochres, golds and flashes of red suggest the shifting colour and atmosphere of woodland, while the heavily worked surface gives the painting a strong physical presence.
For Fuller, the image became connected with memories of her family farm at Pemberton in Western Australia. The title reflects that sense of a landscape returning through memory, rather than being consciously reconstructed.
The painting moves between landscape and abstraction. Areas of woodland, earth and light emerge and dissolve within the surface, allowing the viewer to read the work both as a remembered place and as an arrangement of colour, movement and texture.
Finished with a final glaze in 2026, The Wood Remembered is an original contemporary oil painting and a unique work.
