I have really enjoyed painting my local Pier over the past few months. As I become more familiar with the architecture of the pier I am able to be more inventive with my approach and the structure of the paintings. The red sunrises have been spectacular. The light of early spring is so gorgeous over the sea where I live on the Kent coast. With these two paintings I have put down a ground of Turner Yellow. This is the first time I have experimented with this colour so I wanted to make sure to keep the image subtle. Watching this video back it does seem amazing even to me that I can keep two visual images in my head at the same time. The way I did this was to think of the same scene on the beach on the same day. Split them in half and then reverse them. So the viewing of the Deal Pier was a few minutes before I walked past the Pier and then saw the Bouy in the water with the sunrising. The images are reversed on the sheet of paper. In some ways it's easier to reverse them because it helps...
