Apocalypse
This painting has been influenced by two men, Alex Coppel and Ben Lawson. a photographer and a poet/actor. But the main influence is of course the fires in Australia this season and the lengths people had to go to to keep safe. One of the most heartening aspects was the fact that people took their animals with them. Sometimes leaving their homes with bare feet but carrying their dog and a blanket, for the dog. People, horses, dogs and cats sit on the beaches of the south coast of New South Wales keeping calm as they watch their houses burn. Some drove...
Hastings Open 2020 Preselection
I am pleased to announce that two of my paintings have been shortlisted for the Hastings Open 2020. A mother and her children walk into the distance on the road to nowhere over the sea.We call them refugees. They have no where to go but are expected to get there. We don’t know where nowhere is and neither does she. But this beautiful young mother will walk on water to keep her children safe. Find them refuge and food. She knows no bounds because she has no choices. We watch her go, not our business, not our problem. They Walk The...
Have you met the artist Stephanie Fuller?
"Have you met the artist Stephanie Fuller?" Twenty years ago I stopped correcting people when they called me by my other name. I realised Fuller was the name they knew me by and it was my first professional name in the UK and Australia. So the international art world and all my friends in the UK, think of me as Stephanie Fuller. It happened to me again last week, "Have you met Stephanie Fuller, she's an artist", as it has hundreds of times over the years. Most emails I send here in the UK to let people know I have moved back I...
On the 5th October 2019, before the Bushfires destroyed 27 Million Acres of Forest
It seems incredible now but I finished this painting before the bushfires in Australia wiped out over one billion animals and 27 million acres of forest. This wasn't a planned painting it just happened. I have been concerned about climate change for years now but my worry was heightened by my recent move back to the UK in May 2019. This is what I wrote on Instagram on the 5 October 2019. The Poem is mine, written on the 5th October. "'When all the trees are gone will there still be clouds, Will the children be able to breathe, When all...
Lake Conjola
This island is at the entrance to Lake Conjola. The community in the town have been through a lot in the last 6 weeks. Their homes were burnt on New Years Eve, many people ended up on the beach or in the lake. Then two days ago the rest of the town that survived was flooded.Yesterday the entrance to the lake was cleared and opened to the sea, easing the flooding. My heart goes out the the people and creatures of this beautiful place. Hopefully now you can have some peace and time to rebuild your paradise. #lakeconjola #shoalhaven#stephanieburns #paintingnature #fishermansparadise
